One of the most anticipated festivals of the year celebrates the excellence and hard work that goes into the film industry and it is none other than the upcoming Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF).

VIFF screens films of different genres from documentaries, avant garde, thrillers and romance to sex and more from filmmakers all over the globe. VIFF starts on Thursday, September 26 to Friday, October 11, 2013 and will screen at an array of locations, such as the International Village, RIO Theatre, SFU Woodwards, Centre of Performing Arts, Vancity Theatre and more.

Here are some suggestions that you might want to check out:

Ilo Ilo from Singapore

Being one of those films that make you think about the ups and downs in life and reflect on how to feel and what it means to be human and how often we tend to forget that. Singaporean director Anthony Chen shares the meaning of this with the audience. The trailer itself is a powerful one with a powerful message.

Screening on October 1, 5 and 9 at the International Village and Centre for Performing Arts.

Under The Bridge of Fear from Canada

Directed by Mackenzie Gray (Man of Steel, Grave Encounters), he brings the audience back into the era of when film noir was all the rage. The film features Vancouver local talents, such as Johannah Newmarch.

Screening on October 4 and 11 at SFU Woodwards and Vancity Theatre.

All the Wrong Reasons from Canada

Directed by Gio Milani, this film might be of interest to all the fans of the late Cory Monteith as this is one of his last films before his unfortunate passing.

Screening on September 27, 28 and October 3 at the International Village and Centre for Performing Arts.

Leap 4 Your Life from Canada

Directed by Gary Hawes with Vancouver talent, April Telek together with a fun-filled young cast, this film is leaning towards the lighter side with a similarity to other musicals. Loads of fun for the young audience and young at heart!!

Screening on September 30 and October 10 at Rio Theatre and The Cinematheque.

Be sure to check out the official VIFF website at www.viff.org to find the complete list of films being screened and the schedule.
