Dec 19 2017, 6:41 pm

The 10 year anniversary of the City of Bhangra Festival kicks off May 29 to June 7, 2014. This ten day festival showcases traditional music and dance from Punjab regions of India and Pakistan with 15,000 local and international attendees onsite and over 300 performers.

This year’s theme is #BhangraLove, which, according to the Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration (VIBC) website, is about “embracing the idea of love crossing all boundaries – social, cultural, sexual, religious, geographic – and uniting (even igniting) the hearts and minds of diverse audiences through the vibrancy of Bhangra music, dance, art, poetry, and song”.

This cultural experience of Bhangra can be seen on indoor and outdoor stages around the Vancouver and Surrey region. The City of Bhangra Festival encourages community participation and the exploration of the culture. The goal of the festival is to bring British Columbians of all backgrounds together and promote dance, culture, and the arts.

VIBC is a non for profit organization dedicated to community engagement and artistic excellence through the celebration of Bhangra. Bhangra is a style of traditional dance that originated in the Punjab regions of India and Pakistan. It represents the blending and connectivity of folk dance as well as musical beats.
