The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is looking for witnesses after an SUV struck a 70-year-old woman in what the force is calling a hit-and-run.

According to a media release from VPD, on July 11, the victim was crossing the street at Grandview Highway and Slocan Street at around 5:30 p.m. before the driver of a Grey SUV struck her.

Police say that the driver of the SUV did not stop at the scene, but instead proceeded to continue driving east on Grandview Highway.

According to VPD, some folks attempted to follow the vehicle after the incident.

“We believe there were several bystanders who attempted to chase after the vehicle,” said Constable Tania Visintin in a statement.

“Investigators would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision. We also want to speak to the driver of the grey SUV to determine what circumstances led up to the incident.”

VPD is hoping that witnesses, or the driver themself, report to the force.

The 70-year-old woman is facing serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

There are a couple of ways to contact the Vancouver Police if you have any information about the hit-and-run incident. You can call VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit at 604-717-3012 or email VPD at vpdciu@vpd.ca.
