The driver allegedly involved in an early morning hit-and-run has been identified.

Vancouver police say that the individual came forward and turned himself into authorities.

“The 54-year-old driver in this case eventually did the right thing by coming forward,” says VPD Sergeant Jason Robillard.

The incident took place on Thursday, December 27, just after 3 am. A passerby notified police of a pedestrian who appeared to have been struck and seriously injured.

The body was found on Kingsway near Glenn Drive. The driver, however, did not remain at the scene.

The victim, a 39-year-old Vancouver man, was brought to the hospital but died shortly after.

The driver has since been released pending further investigation; his car has also been seized by VPD collision investigators.

Charges will be determined once a thorough investigation has been completed, says Robillard.
