Vancouver Giants GM Scott Bonner to resign at end of season

Some big news from the Vancouver Giants today, with the announcement that Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Bonner will be leaving the organization at the end of the season.

Bonner is the only GM the Giants have ever had, guiding the ship since their first season in 2001. He will remain with the Giants for the remainder of the season to help with the transition to a new management team.

Bonner is leaving for a senior management role with The Sports Corporation, one of the most influential sports agencies in hockey that has clients like Carey Price, Ryan Getzlaf, Brent Seabrook, Brendan Gallagher, and Milan Lucic, to name a few.

“Scott and I have worked together for 26 years in the WHL with both the Tri-City Americans and Vancouver Giants,” said Togo in a press release. “We have had many more great years than we’ve had down ones. We’ve won a Memorial Cup, Ed Chynoweth Cup, and many BC Division banners. To say Scott will be missed is an understatement. Scott will stay on for the rest of the season and will be there to assist with the transition, once a replacement is found. We all believe that this group of players can have a good year, and our goal is to have a winning season and have success in the playoffs to have Scott leave on a winning note.”

Led by Tyler Benson, who is expected to be a 2016 NHL 1st round pick, this year was supposed to be a bounce-back season for the Giants. The Giants are currently last in the WHL’s Western Conference, but have recently made a flurry of trades in hopes of making a playoff push.

Hopefully this recent announcement won’t cause any distractions, as the Giants look to make up ground in the second half of the season.
