If the saying “April showers bring May flowers” holds true this year, Vancouver may see a bounty of blooms next month thanks to the rain in this week’s forecast.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), rain and showers are sticking around the region this week, with a noticeable drop in temperatures, too.
However, the weather is not all doom and gloom, as there are some bright spots to look forward to.

“Two weather systems have come through Metro Vancouver recently,” said ECCC meteorologist Ken Dosanjh. “There was a low-pressure system that brought 2 to 15 mm over the past 24 hours, more so in areas like Delta and Langley.
“We’re now moving into a cooler regime with a Gulf of Alaska low-pressure system. It will bring a cooler airmass and precipitation in the form of persistent rainfall starting overnight and continuing into Tuesday. It is moving through B.C. and eventually crossing into the Prairies.”
You may want to bring in any patio furniture, as breezy winds are expected to gust anywhere from 30 to 50 km an hour.
The North Shore could see 15 to 25 mm of rain in the early part of the week, with Delta and Surrey possibly seeing 5 to 15 mm.

Temperatures will remain mild for much of the week, with daytime highs of 9˚C on Tuesday and 10˚C.
Overnight lows this week will drop to just 2˚C during the midweek as precipitation continues throughout the region.
However, there may be a break in the clouds on Wednesday and Thursday as there is a chance of some sunshine in the weather outlook.
“We’re seeing a low-pressure system crossing through, bringing down temperatures to be 5 degrees lower than seasonal,” added Dosanjh. “The system will continue to be unsettled, but a ridge of high pressure will start building with sun and temperatures rising back up around Thursday.
“By Friday, the remnants of the next system off the Pacific Northwest will start bringing in some cloud cover. And we can expect more rain and showers early next week.”
