Vancouver forecast in 'sweet spot' but hot temperatures on the way

The first full week of July is starting off warm, but the Vancouver forecast will soon settle into a “sweet spot” of temperatures before things get hot again.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is calling for a run of sunshine for the next seven days, from Monday, July 6, until Sunday, July 12.

According to ECCC meteorologist Terri Lang, the jet stream has shifted and is deflecting weather systems to the north of the Lower Mainland.

That is leading Monday’s temperatures to reach up to 27°C inland, and making things feel up to 30°C inland with the humidex.

“Things may be hazy for a bit due to the wildfire smoke,” Lang told Daily Hive. “Coupled with the sunshine, there may be some low-level pollution.

“As the weather shifts on Tuesday, the ocean breeze will bring in cooler air.”

ECCC is forecasting temperatures to hover around seasonal averages for much of the week ahead.

“The seasonal average is 21°C for the daily max, and 13°C,” added Lang.

“Vancouver is in a beautiful sweet spot, with no rain and no fear of the heat for the next little bit, so enjoy it.”

Temperatures in the Vancouver forecast will remain temperate and dry for the next seven days, with temperatures hovering between 20°C and 22°C.

The weather overnight is expected to stay mostly clear with only a chance of showers on Tuesday, with lows dipping between 13°C and 16°C.

However, Lang cautioned that warmer temperatures may soon be back in Vancouver.

“Into next week, the weather models are wanting to build in an upper ridge, which puts southern B.C. into warmer air,” said the ECCC meteorologist. “Things are verging on becoming hot again in the interior as well as the Lower Mainland.”

No matter the temperature, there are so many fun things to do in Vancouver during the first week of July.
