Some of Vancouver’s top food trucks are getting new locations thanks to the City of Vancouver’s dialogue with Food Truck owners and their efforts to streamline the program.
For most, it is a very positive outcome to the meetings that were held in 2013. Spots that were previously rented or vacant have been put back in the pool and offered to Food Truck Operators that have already been vetted by the City. So, although the City is not issuing any new licences for 2014, there will be new food trucks in the downtown core.
“These spots are so exciting because they offer us access to a wider audience and we are very grateful to the City for making these changes,” said Dougie Luv of Dougie Dog Diner.
Five trucks from the Queen Elizabeth “Pod” that was trialled in 2013 now have new downtown locations. Aussie Pie Guy, Culver City Salad, Dougie Dog Diner, Fat Duck Mobile Eatery and REEL Mac and Cheese are all reporting that their new locations have seen increased sales and traffic.
“The QE Pod was a great concept but unfortunately there wasn’t enough population density in that area,” said Matt Fitzhardinge from Aussie Pie Guy. “We will miss setting up next to our pod buddies, but we are all quite close to each other so we can still enjoy each other’s food.”
