10 Vancouver food events to check out in June

Featuring food festivals, exclusive sushi making classes, and a series of longtable dinners, Vancouver’s food events calendar for June is sprinkled with a number of fun food-focused outings.

We’ve complied a list, which we will keep adding to, of upcoming food-related events happening in the city this June.

Exclusive Sushi Making Class

Sushi and the City” invites you to attend an exclusive two-hour sushi and sashimi making class with Charlie Lee, a master sushi chef who was trained by two-Michelin-starred sushi chef Matsumoto Mizuho. In this unique class, attendees will learn the how to make restaurant quality sushi and sashimi using the latest techniques in Japanese gastronomy.

Cooking Class & Dinner: Oriental Inspiration

If you’re looking to expand your cooking repertoire make sure you register for Tartine & Maple’s June Cooking Class and Dinner. Led by the talented Valentine Kitamura, owner of Tartine & Maple and baker at The Uncommon Café, the class will entail learning how to make Lebanese Tabbouleh, a Moroccan-inspired Chicken Lemon Tagine, and a Coconut Mousse with mango coulis.

Oregon Brewers Night

On June 2 Portland Craft will host their 4th Annual Oregon Brewers Night. Join the Main Street pub for food and the opportunity to try 16 unique Oregon beers and meet the brewers that brew the beer.

Eat, Grow, & Love Local Longtable Series

This is the fourth in a series of monthly Eat, Grow, & Love Local themed longtable events, presented by Rocky Mountain Flatbread. Join Aboriginal Herbalist Lori Snyder and learn how plants can be used to create medicinal salves, which heal and nourish. Attendees will be creating their own salves using beeswax and local herbs. This shall be followed by a seasonal four-course dinner with BC VQA wine tasting.

Railtown Tailgate Summer BBQ Series

In celebration of the warmer weather Railtown Cafe has re-launched their street-side Tailgate Summer BBQ Series. On June 11, Railtown Cafe’s chefs and co-owners Dan Olson and Tyler Day will fire up their custom-built, 12-foot smoker/barbecue barrel from 4 to 10 p.m and dish up heaping plates of 35-hour Texas-style slow-smoked brisket, applewood pork shoulder, beer-brined Fraser Valley chicken, jalapeño cornbread, plus a choice of enticing side plates, which include creamy potato salad and Farmers’ Market field greens.

Eat Rich Food Truck Festival

Richmond gets its very own food truck festival this summer. Rolling into town on June 11, the Eat Rich Food Truck Festival will bring with it a smorgasbord of delicious eats. Running over a number of non-consecutive days throughout the summer Eat Rich will host 10 plus food trucks. Not only will attendees to this outdoor food fiesta be able to enjoy an array of street food fare, but also live entertainment, and activities, which are mostly aimed at kids.

Horseshoe Bay Annual Craft Beer Festival

Featuring a range of craft beers, the Horseshoe Bay Annual Craft Beer Festival returns to West Vancouver for its third year. In attendance this year: Townsite Brewing, Parallel 49 Brewing Company, Moody Ales, Howe Sound Brewing, Postmark Brewing, Bridge Brewing, Central City Persephone Brewing, Bowen Island Brewing, Russell Brewing, Strange Fellows Brewing, Hoyne Brewing, Dirftwood Brewing, and Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers.

Farmhouse Fest

Farmhouse Fest is back! The second annual Farmhouse Fest of Saisons and Wild Ales is taking place on June 18, at UBC Farm. Last year the beer-focused festival had over 80 beers. For 2016, the outdoor event will feature even more breweries with limited, vintage, or exclusive beers (as well as ciders). A selection of food trucks will also be on site.

Joy of Feeding

This unique international food festival and annual fundraiser for UBC Farm celebrates home-cooked dishes from around the world. Vij’s, Terra Breads, the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts, and UBC Food Services will bring together fifteen cooks of various ethnicities, traditions, and professions to share samples of their favourite family meals.

Central City Summer Cask Festival

Central City’s Summer Cask Festival is back. Unlike previous years, the brewer will be holding this year’s event at their Downtown Vancouver Beatty Street location. Attendees can expect a great selection of casks, delicious food, and music.
