If you thought you’d catch a break from the cold winter weather and snow flurries this weekend, you might not want to get your hopes up.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), a chance of flurries and below-zero temperatures are in the forecast, starting Friday evening through Sunday.
Daily Hive Vancouver spoke with ECCC meteorologist Alyssa Charbonneau about what folks can expect weather-wise as the weekend approaches.

“We’re looking at a chance of flurries across Metro Vancouver tonight … and then some lingering flurries possible Saturday night into Sunday morning,” she explained.
However, Metro Vancouverites can rest easy knowing that this round of flurries is not nearly as intense as last week’s snowfall.
“In terms of how heavy they are… this is drier than what we saw last weekend, so we’re not expecting [the same] amounts,” said Charbonneau, adding that Metro Vancouver may see around 2 cm of accumulation.
Some areas, like the Fraser Valley or the western parts of Metro Vancouver, may experience a bit more accumulation, noted Charbonneau.
“We’re going to have to see how it all plays out though, in the end.”
The meteorologist also provided an update as to when the region could see an end to the freezing temperatures.
While the beginning of next week will be clear, it’s still going to be quite cold, especially during the evening, explained Charbonneau.
ECCC says lows of -7°C are expected on Monday and Tuesday night.
“In terms of when we see that changing, there are some indications that we could see some of that cold air moderating towards the latter part of next week and into the weekend, with a shift to more seasonal temperatures and perhaps a return of storms coming off of the Pacific and coming across the South Coast of BC,” stated Charbonneau.
However, she noted that there is “some uncertainty” about how long the freezing temperatures could stick around.
Safe to say, it’s best to keep your toques and mittens handy as winter continues to make its mark in Metro Vancouver.
