Fire destroys historic abandoned Vancouver church

Nov 9 2016, 1:03 am

A fire that broke out at Kerrisdale Baptist Church this morning has now been contained.

The fire began at about 6 am at West 41 Avenue and East Boulevard, and about 50 firefighters were called to the scene.

No one was hurt in the incident. However, extensive damage was done to the historic abandoned church, which was built in 1912.

The church was, allegedly, sold to a condo developer and has been sitting vacant for some time.

The building has been broken into several times prompting developers to put up fences around the premises.

Fire officials have not confirmed if the blaze was caused by an intruder.
