Vancouver Film School's $4.5 Million Gastown Campus

This summer the Vancouver Film School (VFS) will open its doors to the new $4.5 million, 106,000-square-foot campus in Gastown, located near Water and Cambie. The new campus will be double the size of the current home of the animation and visual effects department at Burrard and Pacific.

VFS will be taking the old Storyeum spot, remember that space? The first phase of the project is set to open in August 2013. Phase two of the project is set to open in early winter.

Although the idea of having Vancouver Film School in one single building seems practical, VFS wanted to remain in Gastown, thus finding the necessary space to accommodate all the departments became an issue.  They had the option of moving to the Centre for Digital Media on Great Northern Way but it wasn’t an ideal location. Furthermore, locating in Gastown will put them in close proximity to industry heavyweights, such as Pixar Vancouver and Scanline VFX.

The new campus will contain digital animation studios and sound stages designed  to train the next generation of moviemakers. It will also include a brand-new fibre-optic network and a 280-degree green-screen studio.
