People are selling free lanyards from Vancouver FIFA World Cup Matches

If you attend a FIFA World Cup match in Vancouver, you can grab a FIFA Fan ID lanyard after you scan your ticket and are walking towards BC Place.

People are handing them out free of charge. On the card, it says “unlock your FIFA Fan ID experience.”

If you scan the QR code on the card, you get an AR experience a video of President Gianni Infantino explaining that with the FIFA Fan ID, you can access exclusive content.

He also said it’s “yours to keep and share” and “wear your FIFA FanID with pride!”

“Use it at every opportunity and make it your own. Enjoy every single second. This is what football was made for,” Infantino said.

After watching this video (or if you decide to skip it), you “continue to the experience,” where you select your language choice, stadium, and match. You can personalize your ID by adding a photo or choose to skip that, where you then get access to the “exclusive” content.

It includes things like the ability to buy FIFA World Cup 2026 photo prints, accessories, and apparel, as well as access to online games. It also offers an “exclusive matchday surprise,” which, unfortunately, is now closed.

As we have seen with other collectables, like TransLink’s Compass Soccer Mini keychains, people are now trying to sell these.

Daily Hive scanned Facebook Marketplace, seeing a range of prices for FIFA Fan IDs. On the lower end, one person had it listed for $15, calling it a “collectible item for every soccer fan.”

On the higher end, another FIFA match attendee had it listed for $75, down from their original $100 price. They said it was “not free for everyone” unless you attended the game.

They then added that it cost them $850, which is what we can presume their ticket cost to actually attend and watch a FIFA World Cup Soccer match.

Would you buy one of these FIFA Fan IDs? Why or why not?
