Sgt. Randy Fincham says Vancouver Police are trying to figure out why an improvised explosive device was placed in a downtown Vancouver storage facility.

“We don’t believe that it’s connected to any plot or anything like that, but certainly any time that we see explosives in the City of Vancouver it is very concerning. We don’t have a viable reason why in the city we would have explosives. We are not in a rural area or a farming community.”

It had to be disabled by police on Tuesday.

Fincham says it posed a danger to anyone in the vicinity.

“There is no plausible reason why somebody would have put other people’s lives at risk by placing a high explosive in a storage unit in a fairly congested area where people are coming and going on a regular basis.”

The explosive was found in a storage facility at West 7th Ave. and Manitoba Street.
