Canada 150 Celebrations: Canadian Forces Snowbirds

  • What: The Snowbirds, Canada’s aerobatics flight demonstration team, will take to the skies above White Rock skies on August 16 for White Rock’s Canada 150 celebrations. The performance is scheduled to begin at approximately 5:45 pm. To round out the celebrations, Canadian Country Music Award Winners, The Washboard Union will take to the stage for an evening of live music, and a spectacular fireworks show will cap off the festivities.

Starlight Theatre at Lansdowne Centre – Rocky

  • What: Take a drive and cuddle up, or bring a blanket and lawn chair and settle in for a screening of the 1976 classic, Rocky. Parking is on a first-come first-served basis (first 200 vehicles), with movie audio will be broadcast over FM radio. And keep in mind that this is a family-friendly event, so smoking and alcohol are strictly prohibited.

Les Dames Summerdine

  • What: Presented by Les Dames d’Escoffier, Les Dames Summerdine features over 30 restaurants, wineries, cooking schools, and culinary venues across BC offering special $79 menus for Summerdine. Proceeds will go towards the Les Dames Scholarship and outreach programs that help women achieve success and leadership in culinary organizations.

The Orb with special guests Hubbz

  • What: Long-running UK electronic group, originally formed by Jimmy Cauty (of The KLF) and Alex Paterson in 1988, that grew out of a love of ambient music and dub, soundscapes and science fiction.

The 1st Annual East Van Cider Fest

  • What: The evening will feature cider, mead & spirits from all over BC along with tasty bites from local businesses. All proceeds from both ticket sales, silent auctions and door prizes directly support the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society.

  • What: Vancouver Queer Film Festival’s outdoor screening is Chutney Popcorn, a South Asian queer, Canadian-made, cinematic favourite. Director Nisha Ganatra was born in Vancouver and raised in a traditional Indian household. She wrote and directed her first feature “Chutney Popcorn” at age 25.
