Alt-J/Facebook

  • What: alt-J are made up of Joe Newman, Gus Unger-Hamilton and Thom Green. Their first album An Awesome Wave won the prestigious Mercury Prize in the UK and sold Gold in the US and Canada. Since then, the band have continued to go from strength-to-strength headlining festivals across the globe and selling out massive arenas like London’s O2 arena and New York’s Madison Square Garden during their last tour.

Stanley Park Ghost Train 

  • What: The legendary Ghost Train returns to Stanley Park this Halloween. This year’s theme is the Alien Invasion; be prepared to be abducted to an unearthly, fantastical, and strange world. Journey into the restricted zones and witness the landing.
  • When: October 13 to 31; Friday to Sunday, from 5:30 pm to 10 pm, Monday to Thursday 5:30 to 9:30 pm

Vancouver International Film Festival 2017

  • What: Both in terms of admissions and number of films screened, VIFF is among the five largest film festivals in North America. The festival screen films from 70 countries on nine screens, with an international line-up including the pick of the world’s top film fests and many undiscovered gems.

Novelty Act

  • What: Sara Bynoe and Riel Hahn present a night of comedy where anything can happen. Sara and Riel are known around Vancouver and across Canada as storytellers and actors, and bring their unique comedy duo to the CSA space. Make sure to arrive on time as they are punctual ladies.

Bear Creek Haunted Forest Scream Train

  • What: Bear Creek Park’s forest becomes alive with ghosts and ghouls intent on scaring you amidst creepy sounds and special effects. Favourite characters like Chainsaw Charlie are back, and you might run into the walking dead who roam the platform every Halloween.

Turandot – Vancouver Opera

  • What: Giacomo Puccini’s famous Turandot is always a flashy and spectacular affair, and is the opening production of the VO’s 2017-18 season. Set in ancient Beijing, the opera is about an icy and vengeful princess who, through the power of love, sets herself and her people free. Sounds familiar, Frozen fans?
