Pencils, Paint & Pixels – How Women Transformed Disney Animation

What: Award-winning author and historian Mindy Johnson and Disney animation legend Jane Baer lead a fascinating evening of discussion and presentation on the invisible history of women in the animation industry, whose contributions and experiences have often gone unrecorded. Johnson will also have copies of her latest acclaimed book, Ink & Paint: The Women of Walt Disney’s Animation, available for purchase, with a book signing session to follow the presentation.

The [Organization]

What: The play follows Wren, a young Asian-Canadian, as she tries to meet deadlines whilst being bombarded with prejudice and toxic masculinity from co-workers and management. Navigating through an office culture filled with racial slurs, sexualization of women, and aggressive competition, Wren struggles between maintaining her sense of right and wrong and toeing the company line.

Talonbooks 2018 Fall Poetry Launch

The Suppliant Women

What: Refugee women arrive in Greece, fleeing their homeland and the threat of unwanted marriage. Will they be welcomed, or sent back to Egypt? To whose laws are they subject? Can the gods offer hope? Aeschylus’ tragedy from 463 BC looks to find meaning in forced migration, and asks what our obligation is to those fleeing sexual violence and seeking some sense of security. This is not a play about individuals, but about masses of people crossing borders in desperation, and not always being accepted when they arrive.

Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition 2018
