Jessica Gares and Claire Allen of CKNW AM980 created an audio documentary series about the local escort industry. In part one of this 4-part series, we were introduced to “Sam the Handler” who didn’t want to be considered a pimp and in part two we met “Jane the escort” who was living a double life.
In part three, we meet a newly married couple who enjoy adding a female escort to their bedroom. Ryan, the husband, explained that adding a third sexual partner to his marriage has opened the communication lines and has created an environment of trust.

As in part one and two, both Claire and Jessica gave us their thoughts on each subject they interviewed. As for Ryan and his relationship, the idea of creating a ménage à trois with a paid escort was a bit of a shock.
“I was very surprised because they have only been married a short while and were already looking to spice things up in the bedroom.” – Jessica
The swinger lifestyle is alive and well in Vancouver and the idea of humans being completely monogamous is being challenged by some. Are we meant to settle down with just one person? Or can a couple survive by adding other elements or people into their sex life?
“I don’t even know how to answer that question. The main thing I took away from this interview and overall project was ‘different strokes for different folks’ and that sex is a very complex human transaction.” – Claire
“Ryan is analytical by nature and he researched the escort industry thoroughly before becoming a customer. Ryan and his wife made a pro/con list and had a series of discussions about what adding an escort into their bedroom could potentially do to their marriage. They are adults and if they are enjoying it and it works for them, great. So far, it sounds as though it’s working for them and maybe more couples engage in this type of activity behind closed doors.” – Jessica
People have different sexual appetites and what happens in the bedroom, stays in the bedroom, but if the escort industry was legal and regulated, could the escort service help other couples who want to experiment?
In part three, Ryan talks about the benefits and even some of the pitfalls of hiring an escort to add some spice and adventure to his marriage.
