Vancouver Eco Fashion Week has certainly come a long way since it’s maiden voyage just a few short months ago! Round one in the fall was an impressive first attempt to put Vancouver on the map in the Eco fashion world, and what they lacked in finesse they made up for in enthusiasm and excitement. But this time around it seemed to me to be a much more polished and elegant affair. Eco fashion week hosted a series of sophisticated events spanning over several days that brilliantly showcased the best of Eco fashion around the globe. As well as highlighting the wonderful local Vancouver talent for design, the organizers also opened the stage to international designers like Jeff Garner of Prophetik who ended off the week with a startling and sumptuous rendition of his classic, dramatic maid Marionesque signature style that left the house breathless on more than one occasion.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. The week kicked off with a killer opening event at the Aveda salon in gastown with awesome tunes provided by a local jazz band and the beverages were flowing freely. The opening show next day at the Shangri-La was brilliant and over the next two days we were treated to a wide array of styles from 22 exciting designers. Highlights included local eco fashion super star Nicole Bridger who gave us a gorgeous selection of her usual flowing elegance in darker shades and more earthy tones than I’d seen from her before. Gastronomically inspired colors that created the urge to reach for a tasty glass of cab sav! Jesica Milton impressed us with floating fabrics that embraced a beautiful sexy femininity. Finally worth a special mention was, The Battalion who showed an intriguing combination of fabrics with lace and fur combinations to give an elegant yet sumptuously sexy theme. Battalion proved themselves to be the best provider of every woman’s wardrobe necessity, the little black dress, in both short and long versions.
From start to finish Eco Fashion Week was a big success!
