Vancouver-filmed 'Deadpool' movie becomes highest grossing R Rated film of all time

Deadpool, the Vancouver-shot big screen adaptation of Marvel’s “Merc with the mouth” officially became the highest-grossing R Rated movie of all time this weekend.

The smash-hit superhero flick starring Vancouver’s very own Ryan Reynolds, has so far taken a $746 million shaped bite out out of the box office, surpassing the previous $742 million record set by The Matrix Reloaded in 2003.

Crammed full of foul language, nudity and fourth-wall breaking fun, Deadpool is something of a departure from the spandex-clad superhero fare that we’ve come to expect on the big screen over recent years. And, given its commercial and critical success, you can no doubt expect a sequel to be ushered into development as soon as possible. If so, that could prove to be good news for B.C. which saw more than $40 million pumped into the local economy during the production of the first film.
