Vancouverite Christian Meier is set to ride in the upcoming Tour de France race after the injury of a teammate forced Orica-GreenEdge to make a late change in its roster.
Australian cycling sprinter Michael Matthews was to have been a contender, but he suffered from injuries after crashing during training earlier in the week.
On Thursday night, 29-year-old Meier left Vancouver to join the rest of the team in Leeds, England, where the race will begin on Saturday.
He had a successful performance in the 2012 Canadian national road cycling championships, coming in third place.
