Huge Concord Pacific Dragon Boat regatta and festival comes to Vancouver next week

Summer fun is still in full swing in Vancouver, and the Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Regatta will help keep the action going with a huge one-day festival this month.

The free community celebration will be held at Concord Pacific Place and False Creek on Saturday, Aug. 22, with racing, culture, music and more.

Thousands are expected to cheer on Vancouver’s top dragon boat teams before they travel to Taiwan the following week to race at the 2026 Club Crew World Championships.

“The Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Regatta is an opportunity to celebrate Vancouver’s diversity, community spirit, and the traditions that bring people together,” said Mayor Ken Sim in a release.

“After an incredible summer of welcoming the world, this is a chance for residents and visitors alike to gather on the waterfront, celebrate our local culture, and enjoy a day with family, friends, and neighbours.”

The downsized dragon boat racing event in East False Creek took the place of the long-running Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival that was cancelled due to the strict security cordon and logistical requirements of the FIFA World Cup tournaments at BC Place Stadium.

“Filling the gap between the 2025 and 2027 Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival was essential for residents,” added Terry Hui, president and CEO of Concord Pacific. “We are grateful to see TD, the Province of British Columbia, and the City of Vancouver come together to support community festivals like this, especially during these challenging financial times.

“The community has been using this site, and many events have been staged on this last piece of the original Expo lands. We can’t keep the site long-term for general event use. In our future planning, as this site develops, we will continue to support some key community events. Events like the Tour de Concord Run for the Cure and the Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival will be integrated into our planning, working with the community and City Hall.”

Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Regatta features the return of TD Main Stage’s 100 per cent local lineup.

Attendees will enjoy a special headliner hometown show by internationally acclaimed EDM artist Hoang in celebration of the end of summer.

The TD Main Stage is one of Vancouver’s largest free, outdoor, and independent
stages showcasing artists and performers from POC, Indigenous, and 2SLGBTQAI+ communities.

In addition to the aquatic action, there will be activities and displays from Chinatown and Indigenous groups and artisans, local makers, and food trucks to check out.

Dragon Boat BC and the Chinese Canadian Museum are also teaming up for a family-oriented program by Five Blessings Collective revealing dragon boat’s roots through a live audio play on Saturday, Aug. 15 in Chinatown.
