Vancouverites Participate in First Local Public Staring Contest Tomorrow to Raise Awareness & Support for World Sight Day
This World Sight Day (October 9) online eyewear retailer ClearlyContacts.ca in partnership with Change the View will launch Vancouver’s first public “stare-off” tournament at Portside Pub in Gastown. For every participant, Change the View and ClearlyContacts.ca will donate a pair of prescription eyeglasses, Vitamin A tablets or UV protective sunglasses to someone in need.
“After seeing the success of the recent ALS Ice Bucket challenge, we saw an opportunity to raise awareness for World Sight Day with a digital campaign,” said Braden Hoeppner, CMO of ClearlyContacts.ca. “Planning and launching this campaign has been a great way to build our office culture although our main goal is to raise awareness for vision health globally, which is why we decided to donate on behalf of those uploading videos. We encourage everyone to pick up the phone on world sight day and make an appointment with their Eye Care Professional. ”
The Portside pub will play host to Vancouver’s first stare-off tournament. To raise awareness for blindness and visual impairment participants will challenge each other to a #WHOBLINKEDFIRST stare-off. Donations will also be generated with each #WHOBLINKEDFIRST video that’s shared.
“Our company donates to Change the View each time eyewear is purchased. However, we offer eyecare on an individual needs bases rather than adopting the traditional one-to-one model of gifting,” said Hoeppner. “For each purchase, we offer restorative prescription glasses, Vitamin A tablets to prevent the early development of eye disease in children, and sunglasses to block UV Rays. To date, we’ve helped 340,000 around the globe.”
