Artivism 2019 LAUGH MORE: Feminist and Queer Stand-Up

What: Dive Into UBC and UBC Arts & Culture District present feminist and queer positive standup comedy at Hatch Art Gallery. The event is part of the second annual Artivism, a student-run festival for art for justice and social change. Hosted by Maddy Kelly.

The Women of Comedy

What: TRANSFORM: A Cabaret Festival hosts The Women of Comedy at York Theatre. Performers include Canadian Comedy Award winner Martha Chaves (CBC Radio’s Laugh Out Loud, Because News), Australia’s rising Indigenous comedy star Steph Tisdell (Sydney Comedy Festival and Melbourne International Comedy Festival), Toronto’s Nour Hadidi (Just For Laughs, Winnipeg Comedy Festival), and Vancouver’s Erica Sigurdson (The Debaters, CBC, CTV).

Chris Gaskin

What: Vancouver’s Chris Gaskin was a “Stand Up & Bite Me” finalist on Bite TV, was the winner of the Champion of Champions Comedy Competition, and has been featured on SiriusXM Satellite Radio. He’s taping his first ever comedy special at The Kino on October 9.

Blood Bath & Beyond

What: A horror variety show at the Wise Hall featuring magic, burlesque and sideshow performances. Acts include Calamity Kate, Aleister Crane, Vivianne Oblivion, and more. Presented by Major Productions and Impossible Things Productions.

The HERO SHOW 12 Year Anniversary

2019 International Theatresports Institute’s Conference and Festival

El Jaguar/Vancouver TheatreSports

What: Vancouver TheatreSports is hosting the 2019 International Theatresports Institute Conference and Festival, featuring over 100 improv performers from 18 countries in 50 performances across three theatres on Granville Island. Highlights include The Toys Strike Back, by Norway’s Det Andre Teatret, the El Jaguar Fiesta Tour of Vancouver with masked Mexican luchador El Jaguar (Derek Flores, New Zealand) and OK Tinder – The International Edition.

Schitt’s Creek: Up Close & Personal

What: Just For Laughs presents a live event with the cast of Schitt’s Creek at Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
