Vancouver City of Bhangra 2015 kicks off with Taza Beats: Throwdown Edition

Dec 19 2017, 11:22 pm

Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration (VIBC) will be launching their string of summer events this week starting with the festival kickoff, Taza Beats: Throwdown Edition on Thursday, May 28.

Through the joy of bhangra, the festival builds bridges and seeks to establish new relationships across genres of performance and ethno-cultural boundaries.

Currently in its 11th year, the night will be celebrated with the esteemed DJ duo DJ Lajit and DJ Reminisce who will be spinning tracks from the ’90s.

DJ Lajit

DJ Lajit has taken the Vancouver music scene out of the confines of one note music and transformed it to a completely new level. As a permanent fixture of A-Town Production events, he emotes the artistic essence of the city’s South Asian music scene and has propelled it from an underground abode to a crossover success. Transcending musical genres, he is creating a global DJ experience.

DJ Reminisce

As one of the pioneers of the Canadian West Coast bhangra and hip-hop scene, Reminisce has DJ’d at the largest parties and composed music for today’s most popular artists. His sound gives gracious nods towards Rishi Rich, Bally Sagoo, Jassi Sidhu, Juggy D among many others. Furthermore, his beat making combines his knowledge of traditional Indian music and modern hip-hop. The result is a critically acclaimed style that is both unique and original.
