Vancouver City Hall "Ice Lights" Installation

As the Olympics near more and more arts installations are coming to the City of Vancouver. The majority of these installations will be permanent and a welcome addition to Vancouver’s cityscape. Further, the recent Vancouver Biennale installations is also evident of this cities push for more public art. Or at least I hope it is?

Berlin-based artist Gunda Förster’s inventive light installations can be found in major cities throughout Europe. Her light-based work for Vancouver City Hall, her first North American commission, will appear as a skim of shimmering ice, gracing the edges of the heritage building. In addition to its artistic qualities, the use of LED lights will significantly reduce the power consumption of City Hall’s external architectural lighting.
