West 4th is where it all happens in Kitsilano. Besides vinyasa, bike riders, young moms pushing strollers and healthy people wearing stretchy clothing, here you can shop, socialize, and sit back to talk about your latest juice cleanse without anyone batting an eye. When Vancity Buzz and Chowmenow strolled the strip, we wondered if antioxidants and omegas really do come at a price. Not to worry, you can still purchase proudly with your $5 bill. Here’s where to do it:
Fresh ingredients and a great place to grab a patio seat, order a hearty half sandwich for $5 as well as various salads packed with tasty ingredients like ricotta, goat cheese, and quinoa, for $3.25.
Frozen yogurt is quite necessary after a long day at the beach, or any day in general. A large Scoop is $4.49- $4.79, which is the only size you’ll need to know as it’s just that good. If it’s something a little more ‘Kitsy’ you’re after, smoothies are $4.26 and Yogi Juice is $3.49.
There are tons of tapas for under $5 like the pork gyozas, appetizer tempura, and chicken yakatori. The same goes for the sushi rolls and salads. Variety definitely isn’t an issue here, so grab some fellow Chowsters, throw in $5 each, and chow down.
Though we’ve heard it referred to as ‘Whole Paycheck’, there are quite a few sweet and savory options at Whole Foods on West 4th . If you’re wheat-free, vegan, vegetarian, or everythingtarian like us, they’ve got you covered. There’s also 2-for-$6 wraps and salads, which means you can pair up with someone and eat for $3 a pop! If it’s breakfast, definitely opt for the massive muffins at $2.69.
Whether it’s these chocolate croissants or savoury cheese and chive scones, COBS Breads is a go-to if you’re in the mood for all-things-carbs, which we just happen to be all the time. Most run under $4.50, and they always have free samples to fill up on…we mean try.
