Vancouver Cheap Eats: Super unique sandwiches

Though we never tire of the classics, there are a few spots in Vancouver that have reinvented the traditional sandwich. Featuring sandwiches with ingredients from crispy pork belly to wasabi mayo, here are some spots to grab a portable, affordable, and super unique sandwich for $10 or less.

Sunny Spot Cafe

We may not be able to pronounce it, but that doesn’t meant we don’t enjoy every bite of Sunny Spot Cafe’s Xian Hamburger for $4.

With plenty of options, vegetarians and carnivores alike can enjoy a banh mi for $7.50 for a full order or $4 for a half (although we can’t imagine why you’d choose a smaller version?!).

Hubbub

From prawns to pulled pork, Hubbub takes the traditional sub sandwich to the next level with their secret sauce, pickled jalapeños, and caramelized onions on a toasty baguette. With three locations, chow down for around $9.

Bao Down

Bao Down in Gastown has a menu chock-full of baos and sandwiches for less than $10. For pork lovers, try the Two Worlds Collide, which has braised pork belly, crispy pork belly, chicharon, and picked veg for $6.

Shishinori

With most subs less than $5, pop by on your lunch break and order a healthy sandwich served with fresh ingredients (and that all-too-addictive Japanese mayo). Top faves include the Spicy Teriyaki Beef Avocado sub and the Wasabi Mayo Chicken. Fans of Shishinori’s cheap eats will appreciate that this popular spot has opened a second location, in Coal Harbour.
