If you love eating out but have resolved to save more money this year, Chowmenow and Vancity Buzz know how you can still enjoy Vancouver’s amazing culinary scene without emptying your bank account: our weekly cheap eats!
With a $5 budget, you can support local businesses and eat some pretty tasty food all at the same time. To kick off the first installment of the New Year, here are a few places serving warm bowls of soup for $5 or less.
The Dish
The chalkboard changes daily, so you’ll never get bored of what they’re serving at The Dish. The Soup of the Day is $3.65 for a small or $4.75 for a large. You can also try the vegetarian chili for $3.80/$4.85. We suggest adding a scoop of brown rice for an extra $1.75 or a slice of multigrain bread for 65 cents if you’re looking for a heartier meal.

Gourmet Wok
Warm-up on Granville Island with the wonton, vegetable, or noodle soup at Gourmet Wok for $4.50 or less.

Lost and Found Café
We’ve heard Lost + Found is famous for their lentil soup, which usually sells out by 2pm. If you happen to miss it, their curried yam with coconut milk is also a good choice. Both are served with breadsticks for $5.

Falafel King
You may know them for their falafels, but the lentil soup is definitely worth trying the next time you’re in the West End. The pita bread is warm and perfect for scraping those last bits off the bowl.

Congee Noodle King
This giant bowl is packed with noodles and shrimp wontons for just $5.10!
