Vancouver Cheap Eats: International Cuisine

With the World Cup buzz now fizzled out, Vancouverites will have to wait another four years to rally behind their favourite countries. Though you may have put your jerseys and flags in storage, the World Cup can still inspire you to branch out and try the international cuisines available right in YVR.  This week Vancity Buzz and Chowmenow are listing 5 places to dig into for $5 or less. 

Japanese: Guu Izakaya


Grab your friends for some Guud food, because this place is all about sharing plates with $5 price tags. With several locations, Guu offers delicious Japanese meals from tofu, takoyaki, cheesecake, fish cakes, and gyusuji, among many other things, for less than five bucks.

Vietnamese: Au Petit Café


Closed on Wednesdays, this Main Street hot spot is the go-to lunch place for Vietnamese food, especially banh-mi-loving Vancouverites. Sandwich options include meatball, ham, liver, chicken, pork, and veggies for only $4.25.

Mexican: La Taqueria

Chinese: New Town Bakery & Restaurant

You won’t go hungry in the morning with four sausages, bacon, egg, lettuce, tomatoes and homemade mayo stuffed between a ciabatta bun. For lunch, they offer ham, turkey, roast beef, roast pork, veggie with cheese, tuna and bacon and egg sandwiches for only $5, served with lettuce, tomato and homemade mayo.
