Vancouver Cheap Eats: Buzz Readers Choice

Dec 19 2017, 9:58 am

You’ve probably figured out by now that every Friday we post where to find menu items for $5 or less. However, it turns out we’re not the only ones who know where to get the cheap eats in Vancouver. Vancity Buzz readers are pretty savvy savers themselves, so we’re sharing recommendations that have been posted on our last few articles. Here’s the latest Buzz on where to Chow down.

Buzz Recommendation #1

Doug_777: “It’s been a while since I’ve been in Van but the samosa places, especially the one by Church’s Chicken at Fraser and 41st, had like 5 excellent veggie samosas for $2.”

We’re pretty sure Doug_777 is referring to East Village Eatery, where they’re serving 3 samosas for $5.

Suj: “On Lok on East Hastings near Victoria that’s my go-to.”

On Lok a ton of great dishes for $5 or less, including curry beef brisket, wonton, and BBQ duck noodle soups. You can also get a wide variety of congee for around the same price.  If you’re not in the mood to slurp, they also serve steamed chicken, beef, pork, or duck on steamed rice within our budget.

Buzz Recommendation #3

Louis Cyphre “Check out the dim sum (lots for well under $5 an item) at the
Bodhi Choi Heung Vegetarian Restaurant. I love the deep fried soy milk!”

Wonder if Louis also loves the deep fried buns, dumplings, gyozas, and spring rolls for $2.75 each. A large assortment of soups also fall under five bucks.

macgurrl: You forgot to mention the five dollar lunch special at Windjammer Fish n Chips.

Sorry about that gurrl! At Windjammer you can usually find lunchtime specials like a piece of cod and fries for $5.
