Vancouver Cheap Eats: 5 Spots for under $5

From burgers to bagels, Vancity Buzz and Chowmenow have rounded up this week’s fill of cheap eats. Whether you’re a vegetarian or ravenous carnivore, there are plenty of options to keep you full and frugal. Check out these food finds that are five dollars or less!

Rocio’s Saltenas & Pastries

Pastry and meat, what’s not to like? At Rocio’s, they have a few different versions under $5. First you must try the saltenas. At $3.50 a pop, choose from beef, chicken or vegetarian fillings. There are also empanadas for $2.30 and pukacapas filed with cheese, onion, and cilantro for $2.70.

Solly’s Bagelry

Kick off the day with a shmeared Solly’s Brooklyn Style Bagel with a hot cup of Ethical Bean Organic Fair Trade Coffee for $3 dollars.

Mogu Japanese Eats

Feeling peckish? Mogu has some good options for a light nosh, like the mini chicken karaage for $5. You could also grab the feature soup and green salad for $4 (or $2 each).

Purple Olive Grill

Eat early or late at the Purple Olive Grill. With two sets of Happy Hour in a day, chow on pub fare like chicken strips, calamari, potato skins, and even a burger for $4.95 between 3pm and 5pm, or after 9pm from Monday to Saturday.

Pappa Roti

Now we understand what all the hype is about. These buns really are little balls of $3.65 heaven. You still have a couple days left to take advantage of their May special, which is a PappaRoti bun with any sized drip coffee or loose leaf tea for $4.95. Hurry!
