From burgers to bagels, Vancity Buzz and Chowmenow have rounded up this week’s fill of cheap eats. Whether you’re a vegetarian or ravenous carnivore, there are plenty of options to keep you full and frugal. Check out these food finds that are five dollars or less!
Pastry and meat, what’s not to like? At Rocio’s, they have a few different versions under $5. First you must try the saltenas. At $3.50 a pop, choose from beef, chicken or vegetarian fillings. There are also empanadas for $2.30 and pukacapas filed with cheese, onion, and cilantro for $2.70.
Kick off the day with a shmeared Solly’s Brooklyn Style Bagel with a hot cup of Ethical Bean Organic Fair Trade Coffee for $3 dollars.
Feeling peckish? Mogu has some good options for a light nosh, like the mini chicken karaage for $5. You could also grab the feature soup and green salad for $4 (or $2 each).
Eat early or late at the Purple Olive Grill. With two sets of Happy Hour in a day, chow on pub fare like chicken strips, calamari, potato skins, and even a burger for $4.95 between 3pm and 5pm, or after 9pm from Monday to Saturday.
Now we understand what all the hype is about. These buns really are little balls of $3.65 heaven. You still have a couple days left to take advantage of their May special, which is a PappaRoti bun with any sized drip coffee or loose leaf tea for $4.95. Hurry!
