Vancouver Cheap Eats: 5 Delicious Richmond Night Market Dishes

Dec 19 2017, 6:51 pm

The annual Richmond Night Market is in full swing! Although we’ve noticed some of their food prices have gone up this year, there’s no need to worry, because Vancity Buzz and Chowmenow have filtered out some of the most delicious options available that have a $5 or less price tag. Keep in mind that everything at the Night Market is cash only, and includes all taxes.

Japanese Yam Fries

Starting off with a quick and filling option, Japanese yam fries. They might seem like your typical yam fries and not traditional Asian food, but it’s the wasabi mayo and nori they’re garnished with that puts it over the edge. Get a cup full for $5!

Po Wah Dim Sum

Spicy Curry Fish Balls

Craving something spicy? Try the spicy curry fish balls at Po Wah Dim Sum. For just $3.50, you get 7 pieces of fish balls that pack a kick.

Bakudanyaki

Bakudanyaki is a Night Market favorite. Available in 4 different flavours – original, chili, wasabi, and curry – there’s something for everyone. At $5 each, you get a filling Japanese-style fritter that’s stuffed with squid, cabbage, shrimp, quail egg, corn, red pickled ginger, rick cake, and green onion. It’s then topped with your choice of sauce and bonito flakes. If you plan on having other things to eat, we recommend sharing this one!

Saucy Pops

This stand specializes in homemade chicken wontons that are deep-fried, skewered on a stick, and then drizzled with your choice of specialty aioli sauces (honey mustard, citrus chili, wasabi mayo, and Korean spicy). For $5 you can get 4 skewers, which conveniently means you get to try all four sauces.

Bubble Waffles

Every good chow down needs a dessert. At Bubble Waffles, you can pick from original, chocolate, and strawberry-flavored waffles at $4 each. There are other bubble waffle stands at the market, but this one is by far the most popular.

So what are you waiting for? Head to the Richmond Night Market and let us know which one of these eats you like (or dislike) the most!
