Ce Soir Noir is back for its fifth annual free picnic of darkness at Creekside Park on Thursday, August 8.
This event is pretty much the opposite of Dîner en Blanc, as guests are asked to show up dressed head to toe in black, and come equipped with a blanket and all the food and beverages they can handle.
After you’re set up, organizers encourage people to “do next-to-nothing” –- which sounds like a great plan to us.
Attendees are also reminded that while you bring what you want, you’re expected to take what you bring “so that when we leave it’s as spotless as it was when we came. No square folding tables, no chairs, no dogs, and no open flame.”
While the event is completely free, anyone joining in the festivities is encouraged to bring a fun, non-perishable, child-oriented food item or cash donation for Backpack Buddies, an organization that distributes food to children in need in the DTES.
And the most important rule of all? No white – not even white stripes – should be worn to this annual picnic of darkness.
When: Thursday, August 8, 2019
Time: 6 to 9 pm
Where: Creekside Park – 1455 Quebec Street, Vancouver
Cost: Free of charge, donations encouraged
