The news is not good regarding Nils Höglander’s injury status.
The 24-year-old Vancouver Canucks winger left Wednesday’s preseason game in Abbotsford in a walking boot. The ailment, which was reportedly a sprained ankle, was described only as a “lower-body” injury by the team.
On Monday, the Canucks revealed that Höglander’s injury required surgery and that he’ll be out 8-10 weeks. The details of his surgery were kept vague, as the Canucks called it “successful lower body surgery.”
General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that F Nils Höglander underwent successful lower body surgery, out 8-10 weeks.

Höglander looked like a player poised to bounce back following an eight-goal, 25-point season. The 5-foot-9 winger looked strong in training camp, was saying all the right things, and is just one year removed from scoring a career-high 24 goals and 36 points in 2023-24.
Instead, he’ll likely be out until December.
The injury to Höglander will present an opportunity to one of Vancouver’s other depth wingers, of which there are many fighting for a spot in the lineup. Just two preseason games remain on the Canucks’ schedule, Wednesday on the road against the Calgary Flames and Friday at home to the Edmonton Oilers.
