Women confront suspect after witnessing groping on Vancouver bus

A man has been arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman aboard a crowded 99-B Line bus in Vancouver last month.
The incident occurred during the morning commute on June 9, just after 8 a.m.
According to Metro Vancouver Transit Police’s news release, a woman was riding the westbound 99-B Line along West Broadway when an unknown man boarded and stood directly behind her.
While the bus was in motion, the man allegedly made inappropriate sexual contact with the woman. Metro Vancouver Transit Police said she was allegedly groped.
Two female bystanders who witnessed the incident quickly confronted the suspect. He then fled the bus on foot.
Transit Police launched an investigation and were able to identify and arrest the suspect shortly afterward. He has since been released with several conditions, including a ban on using or being present on any Coast Mountain Bus, while he awaits his court date.
Police have recommended one count of sexual assault to the Crown counsel.
“While we would never ask anyone to put themselves in harm’s way, we wish to commend the actions of the two women who immediately came to the victim’s aid and contacted police,” said Sgt. Dustin Szakacs in the news release.
“Thanks to their assistance, we were able to make an arrest and hold the suspect accountable for his actions.”
