Why the Burrard Bridge in Vancouver will glow green tonight

If you happen to be out tonight, you might see an iconic Vancouver landmark look a little different than normal.
At approximately 9:20 p.m., the Burrard Bridge will glow green.
This is happening to mark St. John Ambulance BC and Yukon’s 115th anniversary, as well as St. John’s Day, a day that St. John organizations around the world observe each year on June 24.
“St. John’s Day is an opportunity to recognize the volunteers, employees, donors, partners, and supporters who have carried our mission forward for more than a century,” said Brendan L’Heureux, the interim CEO, in a release.
The release states that “the illumination offers a highly visible symbol of the organization’s long-standing role in helping people be prepared, respond to emergencies, and build safer, healthier, and more resilient communities.
St. John Ambulance BC and Yukon was founded in B.C. in 1911, and remains “widely recognized for first aid training.”
It also has a number of volunteer programs, including youth leadership development, therapy dog programs, volunteer medical first response services, and community support initiatives.
“For 115 years, St. John Ambulance has prepared people to be ready when it matters most, and we are proud to continue serving communities across B.C. and the Yukon,”
The organization is encouraging people to look out for the green illumination tonight.
Last month, a record number of landmarks across Vancouver and the province glowed purple. Landmarks like BC Place, Science World, the Vancouver Convention Centre and the Sails of Light were all glowing purple to mark World Lupus Day and the Lights for Lupus campaign.
