A collision on the Vancouver and Burnaby municipal boundary has claimed the life of the driver.

According to Vancouver Police, the incident occurred just before noon today on the southbound lanes of Boundary Road near Marine Way.

The incident appears to have involved one vehicle, which crashed into a hydro pole. One passeryby told Daily Hive the car ripped in half upon impact.

The VPD says the driver succumbed to the trauma, and one passenger was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Few details are available at this time as the investigation is in its early stages. The VPD Collision Investigation Unit will remain at the scene throughout the afternoon to collect evidence and try to determine the cause and circumstances behind the fatal collision.

Expect delays if you are traveling through the area and intersection.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the VPD at the non-emergency hotline at 604-717-3321.
