We decided to check out the Prix Fixe Weekend Brunch at the Market at Shangri-La, with a similar spin on Weekday Lunch. Their prix fixe menu for brunch offers you three courses for $29. There is also an a la carte menu available.
This was our first appetizer, the Seared Scallops, with a spring of caramelized cauliflower and a smear of caper-raisin emulsion. I was really surprised that there were three large perfectly seared scallops on the plate, for some reason, I expected a smaller serving, maybe two?
The other appetizer we tried was the Beef Tartare. Again, a generous portion of hand chopped tenderloin, mixed with some gerkins and spices and a spicy mayo that gave this dish a nice kick! I wasn’t a huge fan of the onion rings, which were slightly cold and very oily.
Next up? My Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon, but you can choose either Ham or Spinach as well. I asked for the Hollandaise sauce on the side for a heart healthier option. The egg was poached just right, the salmon slices were thin but aplenty. The potato chunks had a really crispy skin but I am not a huge fan of potatoes served this way.
The other main is the MARKET Burger, with a Black Truffle Dressing and Melted Brie. The lettuce and tomato are par for the course, but I really enjoyed the housemade pickles!
The first dessert is the Cheesecake with a Blueberry Sorbet. I just wanted the Blueberry Sorbet and it didn’t disappoint.
A tradition on their menu is the Chocolate Pudding with Crystallized Violets. I think the serving portion has gotten smaller over time, or maybe I just got hungrier, but it’s still enough for a sweet treat. To get the full effect, dip your spoon in the middle of the pudding, scoop up some of the violets and head right down to the bottom, gathering the whipped cream and pudding on the way down. That spoonful will give you the pudding, the whipped cream, with a crunch of the violets.
