The artist behind some of the biggest Bollywood musical hits is going on tour, and Vancouver will be one of the stops.
A.R. Rahman, who has won both Oscar and Grammy Awards, is coming to Vancouver this summer, July 18, on a brand-new North American tour called The Wonderment.
Rahman has been behind the songs in major Bollywood movies like Taal and Lagaan (which was also nominated for an Oscar), as well as the global phenomenon Slumdog Millionaire, including the track “Jai Ho,” which even got an English cover from the Pussycat Dolls.

Rahman will be playing at the Pacific Coliseum, and a media release suggests fans get their tickets quickly, as previous concerts have sold out quickly.
The tour is a fairly limited engagement. Vancouver is the first stop on this Bollywood tour and only one of two Canadian stops aside from Toronto.

The Wonderment Tour
“The concert takes audiences on a musical journey through Rahman’s South Asian and Hollywood blockbuster hits, and South Indian masterpieces. His expansive repertoire includes the international hits ‘Jai Ho,’ ‘Kyu Faya Kun,’ ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ (from Spike Lee’s Inside Man), ‘Uyire,’ ‘Urvashi Urvashi,’ ‘Snehithudaa,’ and more,” the release adds.
“With songs performed in multiple languages — including Hindi, Tamil, and English — the setlist reflects Rahman’s ability to bridge cultures through music.”
On top of winning Grammy’s and Oscars, Rahman has also won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award.
The tour announcement states that Rahman has picked up over 200 million record sales and has composed music for over 150 films.
Tickets go on sale next Friday, March 28. Presales begin on March 25.
