Vancouver's massive Aurora Winter Festival returns for the season

Nov 29 2019, 4:53 pm

Massive tube slide, amusement park rides, ice skating, and a visit to Santa’s workshop. Whatever festive fun your family is looking for this holiday season, Aurora Winter Festival at Hasting’s Park has got you covered.

The North Pole-inspired festival is on now until January 5, 2020, and stretches fifteen acres in size. This year is bigger and better than ever, with a huge variety of fun activities for all ages.

Aurora Winter Festival

Start your Aurora adventure with a trip to the expanded Tube Park, home to twice the number of rides to enjoy than its inaugural year. Take a spin on Choo-Choo Charlie, Super Shot, Berry Go Round, Elephants, Bulgy, and the colourful Ferris wheel. Then climb to the top of the Tube Park for an exhilarating trip down the 200-foot Tube Slide, presented by Rogers.

Rides tickets are $3 each, or get an Unlimited Ride & Slide Pass for $18 online or $20 on site. Tube Slide, Choo-Choo Charlie, Berry Go Round, Elephants, and Bulgy’s require one ticket, while Super Shot and the Ferris Wheel require two tickets.

Then it’s time for a trip to The North Pole, where Santa and his Elves will be sharing their favourite holiday stories daily (yes, there will be visits with Santa too). Stop by the Craft Tent to create your own handmade holiday presents, and share your Christmas wishes with Santa at the letter writing station. And treat yourself at the Gingerbread Hut, Candy Cane Lane and the Candy Shack too!

Families can also explore the four Mystical Worlds of Aurora: Land of Giants, Polar Passage, Luminous Gardens, and Whimsical Forest. Each is filled with unique sights and characters, including giant animal sculptures, a Yeti Cave, light displays, and a palace with ice throne. Don’t miss the Disco Dome where DJ Elyon entertains guests on the LED dance floor, and in the all ages lounge and bar.

And there’s even more to do at Aurora, including skating under the twinkling stars and lights at the Tim Hortons Skating Pond.

A second Family Skating Pond has been added this year for exclusive use by families with young, new skaters. Skating Ponds have no additional charge, but skates are required. Guests are welcome to bring their own, or rent a pair for $6. Note that helmets are mandatory for skaters eight and under, and available for free for all guests. Skating aids will also be available.

Bundle up and get some hot chocolate, because the whole family will want to stay all night at Aurora Winter Festival.
