Vancouver Police are on the hunt for a suspect and witnesses following an early morning attempted sex assault.

At around 5 a.m. on Friday morning, a 26-year-old woman was getting into her car that was parked on East 7th Avenue and Windermere Street when she was grabbed from behind by a man in dark clothing. The man punched her and attempted to take off her clothes.

The woman fought back and screamed, grabbing the attention of neighbours and scaring off the attacker.

Now as police gather evidence and canvass for video in the area, they’re also seeking witnesses or anyone who may have observed suspicious people or behaviour in the last couple of days.

Anyone with information about this attack is being asked to call the VPD Sex Crimes Unit at 604-717-0600 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
