Vancouver Aquarium releases first rescued seal pups of season (PHOTOS)
Last week, the Vancouver Aquarium released its first successfully rescued and rehabilitated seal pups of the season.
Polonium, Piaf and Elvis were first admitted to the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Centre at Port Metro Vancouver in June and July. Polonium came from Victoria while Piaf and Elvis were found near Nanaimo and Chemainus.
All of their seal pups were found alone, sick and injured and had to be rescued to provide them a chance for survival.
On August 6, the rescue centre recorded its 100th injured seal pup patient. Over the past week alone, another 16 seal pups were admitted, but one animal deemed to have a “congenital defect” upon rescue died in treatment.
