Vancouver-based app tracks down your closest cup of coffee

Ever find yourself craving a nice, hot, creamy latte, but don’t have the faintest idea of where to find one? Well, now there’s an app for that.

Vancouver-based company Pricefox recently released an app that lets users cross-reference Caffè Artigiano, Starbucks, Blenz, and Tim Hortons branches, as well different kinds of drinks, to help them find exactly what they want at the location closest to them.

“Coffee is one thing people are always purchasing, that people always want,” Olga Orda, Pricefox Marketing Director, told Vancity Buzz. “Vancouver is a coffee town, and we’re a proud Vancouver startup.”

Co-founded by Tim Murphy and Vedran Budimcic, Pricefox began as a counterfeit detection app, before the team realized it could perform an as-yet-unfilled role as a location-based product search engine. In addition to coffee, Pricefox includes a database of 30 million products and services, including health, beauty, grocery, and electronics retailers across the country.

“Right now there’s kind of no easy and efficient way to find information about what products are carried in different stores,” says Orda. “What ends up happening is most of us are becoming used to guessing and hoping that the product we’re looking for is being carried in a store, so we go from store-to-store looking for a product. We want to essentially eliminate that.”

According to Orda, reception for the app has been strong and enthusiastic amongst Vancouverites.

“Everybody immediately understands the concept, they’re excited about it, and they usually download it right away,” she says. “We’re seeing people who just really value their time, and [would love] to see exactly how far away they are to whatever they want to buy, right then and there.”

More information on the Pricefox App and where you can download it can be found online.
