There's a huge 5-day South Asian festival happening around Metro Vancouver this month

Who’s up for a free block party?

This month, 5X Festival is coming back to Metro Vancouver for its second year in a row.

From movie nights to social media panels discussing the future of art and culture, the festival showcases the best of South Asian music, art, film, and fashion.

From June 12 to 16, attendees can purchase tickets to a selection of unique pop-ups hosted at the Beaumont Studios in Vancouver.

And for all those party animals and music fans out there, the festival’s free flagship event –the 5x Block Party — will once again take place at Central City in Surrey!

Last year’s block party drew more than 10,000 fans who enjoyed performances by leading South Asian superstars Jasmine Sandlas and Sharry Mann.

This year, attendees will enjoy performances from renowned artists such as Raja Kumari, Jaz Dhami, Sidhu Moose Wala, and Mickey Singh.

Get ready to indulge in some South Asian youth culture, folks!

Here’s a breakdown of the events for the five-day festival:

5X Art Party

• When: Wednesday, June 12
• Time: 7 pm to midnight
• What: Featuring a heavy cast of locals, this night spotlights South Asian artists impacting art and fashion around the world. Curated by dontdoze collective.

5X Movie Night

• When: Thursday, June 13
• Time: 8 to 10 pm
• What: Showcasing five acclaimed short films from different regions from around the globe, spotlighting a myriad of South Asian Diasporic identities and experiences. In partnership with Dunya and VISAFF.

5X Women’s Showcase

• When: Friday, June 14
• Time: 8 pm to midnight
• What: This is a night featuring local female musicians.
• Price: $10 – buy online

5X Block Party

• When: Saturday, June 15
• Time: 3 to 9 pm
• What: This party will showcase an array of performers who defy the limitations of what it is to be South Asian.

5X Creates

• When: Sunday, June 16
• Time: Noon to 5:30 pm
• What: From the mysteries of building a social media following to pursuing your creative passions, learn from some of the most compelling South Asian creative professionals in the world in this afternoon of music-oriented workshops and panel discussions about the future of art, culture, and community-building.
