At least 16 people were admitted to St. Paul’s Hospital on Wednesday after their 4/20 celebrations took a turn for the worse.

Vancouver Coastal Health told Vancity Buzz that 16 patients had been admitted for partying a little too hard, but confirmed that they had since been released. “The nurses described them as stoned, with relatively mild symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, and generally feeling unwell,” a spokesperson for Vancouver Coastal Health said.

Vancouver Coastal Health had been active on social media ion the run up to 4/20 urging people to exercise caution when consuming edibles at the event.

The self-styled “Biggest, stoniest marijuana freedom festival that Vancouver has ever seen” attracted thousands of Vancouverites alongside hundreds of vendors selling everything from brightly coloured bongs to THC-laced treats.

Vancouver Police and first responders dealt with a number of medical incidents at Sunset Beach, including a man who had to be rescued by the Marine Unit after he attempted to swim across the inlet to Vanier Park.

In 2015, 64 people were admitted to St. Paul’s Hospital.
