FYI Ladies, Vancouver Ranked 3rd for Sugar Daddies

We all know the term sugar daddy. In case you don’t it’s a slang term for a man who offers money or gifts to a younger person in return for companionship or sexual favours. Now this may sound like prostitution to some, it’s damn near close but it’s basically older guys hooking up with younger women. According to a dating site seekingarrangement.com Vancouver ranks third in the nation. Toronto (city of high finance) and Calgary (the land of oil) ranked 1st and 2nd respectively.

In an expensive city like Vancouver this shouldn’t surprise anyone. It’s quite common place in neighbourhoods like Yaletown and Coal Harbour. There isn’t anything wrong with this and this isn’t a new revelation, this has been going on for a long time. If they did surveys like this in the 1800’s results would be similar.

Here are some snippets from News 1130:

The average sugar daddy in Canada is about 40 years old; he’s quite a young guy in the prime of his life. He makes over $200,000 a year, he’s worth roughly $5 million, and he spends over $4,000 a month pampering the woman he’s dating, whom we term a sugar baby,” explains Wade.

As for the women, he says they shouldn’t be confused with prostitutes. “A prostitute is kind of sleazy. A sugar baby is very glamourous. She’s not really sleeping around with all these wealthy men, she actually chooses and finds a person that she has chemistry with.”

On average, the women are around 12 years younger than the men. Forty per cent of sugar babies are college students, while many of the others are aspiring actresses and models.

Most of the relationships in a sugar baby/sugar daddy dynamic are short-term, but Wade says some of them turn into something more meaningful.
