UYU ice cream closing Gastown shop, looking for bigger space

Some hard news in the world of Vancouver soft serve: UYU Ice Cream announced this week they will be shuttering their Gastown swirl shop at the end of the month, but aren’t giving up the biz completely.

Open just over a year, UYU was one of the first waves of the Vancouver soft serve surge in 2015. Loved for their cups, cones, and shakes in flavours like matcha and cereal milk, UYU has survived more than its share of non-sunny Vancouver days in the ice cream biz. However, they want to do more with their menu, but just don’t have the room.

“[W]e are keen to expand our product range and add baked goods and much more to our menu which unfortunately is not possible in our current, rather small location. This is why we have decided to close our store on Abbott Street on January 29 and find a bigger space where all of our dreams can become reality,” says UYU

UYU says they don’t have a new spot yet, but hope to reopen “in the near future,” to to keep “swirling, swirling, swirling.”
