The Vancouver Canucks should expect a packed building for their game in Utah tonight.
It’s the team’s first-ever game against the new franchise in Salt Lake City, and they better be prepared for a loud crowd. Utah’s owner gave away about 2,000 free tickets on social media today.
Ryan Smith, the billionaire owner of the Utah Hockey Club and Utah Jazz, was clearly feeling generous and offered fans the chance to attend the game for free.
It started with a post advertising free seats to any fans who haven’t yet been lucky enough to see the team play live at the Delta Centre.
If you’ve never seen @utahhockeyclub live, it’s amazing. Giving away some tix for tonight’s game for people who’ve never been.
LMK who you’d bring and we’ll pick some people to join!

Fans replied, telling Smith they’d love to bring their friend or family member, and he responded back, offering free tickets to a bunch of them. The owner even gave away his eight suite seats to some lucky fans who will get to watch the contest in luxury.
The overwhelming number of responses encouraged Smith to get creative. He later posted a link offering two free tickets to fans. The tickets were available on a first-come, first-served basis, and while they are now all gone, many fans managed to scoop them up.
The owner estimates about 2,000 tickets were given away for free. They are “single-goal” view seats, which means one end of the ice is obstructed.
We had 700+ people reach out for tix to see their first @utahhockeyclub game. I gave some respondents my 8 suite seats so let’s try something new.
My treat…we’re opening up single goal view seats which we typically don’t open. Use the link to get 2 free tix for tonight. First…

If you are in Utah and missed out this time, do not worry. Smith plans to hold another giveaway at some point, so keep an eye on his social media accounts.
