Mother nature’s stair master, the 2,830 step Grouse Grind in the North Shore mountains, is not scheduled to open until May. The trail is closed during the winter due to poor conditions and to allow much-needed maintenance to be performed.
So what’s the alternative? You could either find another trail, head to the gym for the stair-stepper machine or try a much more rewarding experience at downtown Vancouver’s Harbour Centre!
Every Tuesday afternoon throughout the month of March, you can climb the stairs of the 28-storey building (equivalent to 40 flights of stairs) to reach the tower’s Lookout – the observation deck, located 553 feet (169 metres) above street level. Altogether, it is a 593 step climb.
Just like the Grouse Grind, climbers of Harbour Centre’s Urban Grind will be rewarded with incredible views of the region upon completion at the top.
If you’re looking to climb the equivalent of the Grouse Grind, you are permitted to ascend and descend the stairs as many times as you desire. To be more precise, it will take about five climbs to complete the Grouse Grind equivalent.
The Urban Grind is open every Tuesday this month anytime from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. While it costs $5 to enter, the deal comes with a free beer and free $5 voucher to Harbour Centre’s recently renovated food court at the bottom of the building.
